- About Us
As with many of our customers, we were looking for an affordable assistive device for a family member. This family member had severely impaired vision to the point of being legally blind and all he wanted to be able to do was to read the newspaper and the mail. Now there were plenty of video magnifiers that could help him read, but everything that was recommended were thousands of dollars and, simply put, not affordable.
One day, some of the family was discussing the situation and we decided to put our mechanical and engineering experience to the test to see if we could not only come up with an affordable alternative to the main stream devices that were already available, but to also make a good quality item that would be dependable, last for years, be easy to use and affordable. With a lot of head scratching and some good ole ingenuity, we succeeded in such a device.
Soon, there were many friends and family that saw our video magnifier and we were asked if we could make more of the same while others asked about variations that would work for different conditions. They also appreciated our friendly service, so, in 2007, we decided to not only use our engineering skills, we decided to put to use our many years of extensive customer service experience and begin our company.
As we continued to evolve to our customers’ needs, we were frequently asked why we did not offer other types of affordable, good quality assistive devices. And those requests may be the hardest we had to try to comply with. There are many good quality assistive items available, but finding a distributor that is willing to sell them at a reasonable price so that we can pass on the savings to our customers was tough. But we have found a few.
Now Vaughn Engineering not only offers low vision aids, we also offer assistive devices for the hearing impaired, deaf, speech impaired and assistive devices for the elderly and disabled. And we are not done yet. We plan on continuing our quest to bring more and more affordable assistive devices to those who need them. So don’t be afraid to check back and see how our inventory has grown.
